background in real estate finance and property accounting to oversee and
manage our financial operations. This role will be responsible for ensuring
accurate financial reporting across properties and entities, maintaining strong
internal controls, supporting budgeting and forecasting, and providing leadership
with clear financial insights to support investment and operational decisions.
The ideal candidate has hands-on real estate accounting experience and
understands the financial complexities of property management, development,
leasing, and multi-entity structures.
Key Responsibilities
Real Estate Financial Oversight
● Oversee accounting operations across multiple properties and/or entities
● Manage property-level P&Ls, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
● Track rental income, CAM reconciliations, lease accounting, and tenant
billing
● Monitor project budgets for developments, renovations, or capital
improvements
● Ensure accurate revenue recognition related to leases and property
agreements
Reporting & Compliance
● Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
● Maintain GAAP compliance and ensure proper lease accounting
standards (ASC 842 if applicable)
● Coordinate with external CPAs, auditors, lenders, and tax advisors
● Oversee property tax filings and regulatory compliance
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow
● Lead annual property-level budgeting and forecasting● Monitor debt schedules, loan covenants, and lender reporting
requirements
● Manage capital expenditure tracking and investment performance analysis
● Provide variance analysis and financial insights to ownership and
leadership
Systems & Process Optimization
● Implement and maintain internal financial controls
● Improve accounting processes for scalability and operational efficiency
● Oversee property management/accounting software (e.g., Yardi, AppFolio,
MRI, Buildium, or similar)
● Develop dashboards and reporting tools to provide real-time visibility into
portfolio performanceRequirements● Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field● CPA preferred but not required● 5+ years of accounting experience, with 2+ years in a Controller or senior accounting role● Direct experience in real estate, property management, development, oreal estate investment firms● Strong understanding of lease accounting, multi-entity structures, and real estate financial reporting● Proficiency in real estate accounting software (Yardi, AppFolio, MRI, Buildium, etc.)● Advanced Excel and financial modeling skillsPreferred Experience● Experience managing multi-property portfolios● Experience working with investors, lenders, or private equity in real estate● Experience in construction/development accounting● Strong analytical and financial decision-making skills● High attention to detail and accuracy● Ability to communicate financial performance clearly to non-financial stakeholders● Ownership mindset and proactive problem solver● Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, growth-oriented real estate
